UPV

UPV is a public Higher Education institution actively involved in international cooperation and mobility projects. UPV hosts over 36,000 students and employs over 5,000 people (teaching, research, administrative services staff). It is the first technological university in Spain according to international rankings (e.g. Shanghai Ranking of World Universities) and offers 33 undergraduate  rogrammes, 73 official Master’s degrees and 28 Doctorate programmes. It receives every year around 1900 exchange students and sends about 1600 UPV students abroad under different mobility  rogrammes. UPV has repeatedly ranked among the top 5 European Universities in student exchange figures under the Erasmus Programme. The Machine Learning and Language Processing  MLLP) research group is composed of researchers based at the UPV’s Valencian Research Institute on Artificial Intelligence. The MLLP group is composed of 5 PhD researchers (1 professor, 2  ssociate professors and 2 assistant professors at UPV) and 5 pre-doctoral researchers. MLLP members have been involved in a large number of machine learning projects since 1995 with public and private budgets; in particular with the EU through ESPRIT (EuTrans), IST (TT2) FP7 ICT (transLectures) and EU CIP (EMMA) projects, and with the Spanish government through CICYT projects  Tracom, Extra, Taval, SisHiTra, Itefte, iDoc, iTrans2, Active2Trans and MORE). Recently, the MLLP research group has been involved in the H2020 project X5gon, and the Spanish government  roject MultiSub. The MLLP’s main research areas of interest are machine learning and applications, natural language processing, and educational technologies and big data:

  •  Machine Learning and Applications: MLLP research covers different machine learning approaches such as supervised, semi-supervised, unsupervised, adaptive and deep learning. Special  mphasis is put on devising accurate and efficient algorithms for real-life machine learning tasks.
  • Natural language processing: MLLP research focuses on developing state-of-the-art technology for natural language processing in many languages. The main goal is to facilitate multilingual online communication to overcome language barriers in challenging natural language tasks.
  • Educational Technologies and Big Data: MLLP research is devoted to the study and deployment of innovative solutions for big data processing in this area. In particular, the focus is put on the development and integration of innovative digital educational tools, solutions and services for learning and teaching.

THE UNIVERSITY OF BAYREUTH

The University of Bayreuth (UBT) was founded in 1975. It has about 13000 students in six faculties: Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences; Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences; Law, Business Administration and Economics; Linguistic Sciences and Literature; Cultural Sciences; Engineering Science. There are many areas in which the faculties work together closely. Interdisciplinary cooperation is a daily feature of research and teaching at the university. The Institute of Mathematics offers bachelor, master studies and doctoral studies in mathematics, economic mathematics, scientific computing and mathematics education. Within the Institute of Mathematics, the Chair of Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics (https://www.dmi.uni-bayreuth.de/) is responsible for initial teacher education of students for secondary modern school (“Realschule” in Germany), grammar school and vocational school. The research activities at the Chair are focused on systemic school development, on innovations in mathematics education fostering mathematical understanding and mathematical literacy, on the use of ICT in mathematics education (especially the integration of dynamic mathematics), on mathematical giftedness as well as on diagnosing pupils’ difficulties in mathematics and supporting low-achieving children. Further, in cooperation with the Center of Mobile Learning with Digital Technology the chair of   Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics is developing and maintaining the popular open source JavaScript library JSXGraph (https://jsxgraph.org) and the gesture-based software sketchometry (https://sketchometry.org). In addition to the software, the research team is also developing digital teaching concepts and training materials.

OSMANGAZI DISTRICT OF THE NATIONAL EDUCATION DIRECTORATE

Osmangazi District of the National Education Directorate is a public body under the Ministry of National Education. Our Directorate, which was established on 15.08.1988, is the official educational authority responsible for the monitoring, evaluation and development of all official and private education institutions in Osmangazi, which is the largest city with a population of 850.000 in the center of Bursa. There are 257 official and 186 private education institutions within the scope of our directorate.

Depending on the duties and responsibilities under the Ministry of National Education Directorate, we have 8 departmental managers and one District Director of National Education in the fields of education and training. Our directorate has been carrying out its activities in such areas; as strategy development, human resources and management, guidance and supervision, primary-secondary and high school and vocational education, media and cooperation, measurement and evaluation, examination services, and lifelong learning for adults. Each departmental unit has its own tasks, responsibilities, and human resources and they all implement Projects within these units.

Our Directorate also plays an active role in creating educational policy while conducting projects for the students, teachers, adults and parents involved in education. In addition, they organize seminars, conferences, in-service training courses, creating educational resources, materials and e-learning applications.

As a state body, our Directorate has been trying to ensure that the educational activities in our district are conducted and supervised at the highest quality standards. Thus, Osmangazi MEM has always been involved in Projects and cooperated to disseminate and make sustainable of all educational results.

Osmangazi MEM has also coordinated several pilot test sessions in different schools by adapting and developing existing new solutions in programs according to Turkish National Education priorities and disseminating the results and outcomes.

OLEMISEN BALANSSIA RY

Olemisen Balanssia ry is a research-based entity founded in the year 2014 in Raisio, Southwest Finland. The focus of our work is the definition of educational needs, with activities focused on data

collection, structured research, detecting the right digital pedagogies, and experimental assessment of results through digital piloting. We are conducting research and providing specialized content in these fields:

  • Evidence-based research
  • Need analyses
  • Delphi Studies
  • Desk Research

We establish national and international networks and integrate theoretical and methodological studies with real-life field investigations. Moreover, Olemisen places a strong emphasis on technology and education. Defining educational needs is an important aspect of our practice. All of us need a thorough education in science, mathematics, and technology to be equipped for today’s jobs, knowledgeable about relevant issues, and able to understand the complicated world in which we live.

UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR

The University of Maribor (UM) is a public autonomous scientific, research, and educational institution. It is the second largest and second oldest Slovene university with around 2.000 employees and approximately 14.000 students, studying at one of the 17 faculties. In the academic year, 2018/2019 The University of Maribor implements 185 study programs: 28 first-cycle higher professional education and 49 first-cycle university study programs, two second-cycle uniform master study programs, 70 second-cycle study programs, and 36 third-cycle study programs. UM is developing scientific disciplines covering engineering, biotechnology, humanities, medicine, social sciences, and natural sciences. UM is a regional developer with the vision to be a globally recognized ecosystem of innovation in which the students, faculty, and administrative staff will enthusiastically engage in creative activity. The Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics (FNM) carries out many different study programs whose quality is ensured by our excellent academic staff. The faculty’s employees are world-renowned scientists and researchers, and with their work, they put the faculty at the top in the field of research. Successful research activities can be seen in different projects and publications.

OŠ BOJANA ILICHA

Bojan Ilich Primary School is a city school with a long tradition. Alongside 70 teachers there are currently around 500 students enrolled our school.  Under mentorship of their teachers students excel in various areas such as Art, Science, Languages, etc. Our students predominantly continue their schooling in general secondary schools (“gimnazija”).  Among all activities we emphasize cooperation in research (Young Researchers Competition), our School Choir is very successful and well renowned in broader environment and there are also many successful teams as well as individuals in the field of sports. One of our former students is also World Ski Champion Ilka Štuhec. By cooperating with the Faculty of Pedagogy and Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, we ensure a modern approach to teaching.

BonNouEdu

BonNouEdu is a start-up (cooperative type) formed by education and computer professionals. Born in 2011 with the goal of creating digital content of Science and Mathematics for primary and secondary education. These contents are integrated into the Moodle platform with the intention of energizing the work in the classroom, freeing teachers from monotonous tasks and facilitating the evaluation of students.

Stiftland-Gymnasium Tirschenreuth

Stiftland-Gymnasium Tirschenreuth (SGT) is a state-run school in north-eastern Bavaria providing an extended secondary education with a strong emphasis on academic learning. The school is focused on preparing our students to enter a university for advanced academic study and was established in 1955. The SGT has ca. 650 students, 65 teachers and 5 organisational personell.

SGT offers its students a friendly and bright, professional learning environment on the outskirts of the district capital Tirschenreuth. State-of-the-art technology in the classrooms and spatial freedom in the school building (completion 2010) enrich our possibilities. Since the last decade the Stiftland-Gymnasium has been a model school with a focus on digital practice, automated and learning-enhancing feedback and digital assessment.

The SGT is associated with European partner schools in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, France and Italy. The foreign languages Latin, English, French, Czech, Spanish and Italian are taught on site. Pupils can specialize in three school branches from grade 8 onwards: These include a scientific-technological, an economic and a languages branch. Among the many electives offered at the school are chess, software development, robotics, biophysics and astrophysics.
